About the Charlotte Area

Charlotte, North Carolina, is one of the fast-growing cities in the upper South. Located at the busy junction of I-77 and I-85 near the South Carolina border, Charlotte can genuinely claim to have made it – a major banking and transportation center that is now the largest city in the state, thanks to ambitious business and city leaders. Charlotte’s many neighborhoods are varied and charming and full of good places to eat. You can find out more about this delightful city at http://www.charlottecvb.org/.

Transportation

Transportation to Charlotte is available from a variety of national airline, train, and bus services. Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CDIA) is currently served by numerous passenger airlines, including US Airways, American Airlines, United, Delta, and Continental. Additional information on CDIA can be found at http://www.charmeck.nc.us/Departments/Airport/Home.htm. Amtrak also provides a daily service from many cities; call or check the Amtrak website for more schedule information (800-872-7245; http://www.amtrak.com/).

The hotel is approximately 15 miles (15-20 minutes) from CDIA. Due to its suburban location, car-pooling to and from the hotel is recommended. The airport offers most major car rental companies, and hotel parking is free-of-charge. No commercial shuttle services are available to the hotel; however, there are taxicabs available at the airport.

Weather

Average March temperatures in the area range from highs in the lower 60s to lows in the lower 40s. Please remember that conference rooms are generally cool; layering your clothing for air conditioning will help you enjoy the conference more fully. Dress for the conference is business casual; please dress appropriately (no jeans or shorts), and bring a sweater or jacket.

Meals

In-room coffee service is provided for overnight guests, and beverages will be offered in the conference room at 7:30 am, mid-morning, and mid- afternoon.

Social Activities

This year, the Chief Information Officer is hosting a very special social event, the evening before the conference begins. Preregistration and prepayment for the social event is required.
