Charlene Douglass Memorial Award
Each year, the DOE Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) accepts nominations to acknowledge a federal or contractor employee, who has significantly contributed to information security activities in either the Department of Energy or National Nuclear Security Administration who has significantly contributed to information security activities within the DOE/NNSA complex. 2005 marks the fifth year that the Charlene Douglass Memorial Award has recognized significant achievement within the DOE community. It began with a posthumous award to Charlene Douglass in 2000.

- Sandy Sparks (2001)
Nominees may be involved in any aspect of information or cyber security, such as, but not limited to:
- Training, education and awareness
- Managing processes that improve information/cyber security
- Developing new technology that provides security for information/cyber systems
- Implementing new technology to improve information/cyber security while providing cost savings
- Providing outstanding service in information/cyber security
- Providing an outreach service in information/cyber security to the local community
- Advocating for site-wide or Department-wide information/cyber security initiatives
The contributions may encompass either local, or national efforts or both.
Nominations will be evaluated by a review committee selected by the DOE OCIO and made up of both DOE/NNSA Headquarters and field personnel,. The winner will be announced and honored at the conference.
Nomination Criteria
Nominations will be evaluated on the following:
- Originality and uniqueness of the activities described
- Extension of benefits beyond the nominee’s organization, if applicable
- Perceived merit and relevance of the activities
- Scope of the activities and perceived impact
Please be specific and provide adequate details.
NOTE: Activities described in the nomination may have involved participation in classified activities, but the nomination must be completely unclassified.
